Giving new life to used envelopes.
Those ubiquitous padded envelopes: you get them at work, you get them every time you order a book, DVDs or CD and after awhile they really start to add up. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter how environmentally conscious you a, there are, even if you re-use them once or twice they almost always end up in a landfill somewhere.
That’s because recycling companies can’t separate the composite material (bubble wrap and paper) these envelopes are made of. Fortunately there’s another option.
Jacob Anderson-Minshall founded re|new|velope to give new life to used envelopes. The venture is currently focused on the Portland, Oregon area. Phase I–preventing used envelopes from ending up in local landfills–is well underway. Busniesses, local governments and private citizens are signing up for free pick up of their used padded envelopes.
Phase II is coming soon and will entail offering gently used and reclaimed envelopes for sale at a fraction of what they’d cost new.
Padded envelopes may not be recyclable, but they don’t have to end up in a landfill either. For more information contact Jacob via j.andersonminshall at gmiail.com.
